0 Question: is it possible to make new organswith tissue Keywords: create, new organ, tissue Asked by luke is awesome to Krishnaa on 23 Jun 2016.
Krishnaa Mahbubani answered on 23 Jun 2016:
Hey Luke,
That’s an excellent question. It is possible to make some organs with some tissues. So far the greatest success has been in using a segment of intestine to create a ‘neobladder’ for people who’ve had bladder cancer. Read about here: http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/medicalschool/…/Neobladder2_PEC.pdf
There are some people who have successfully been able to build blood vessels in the laboratory grown from a person’s own cells to replace damaged blood vessels.
There’s even a lab in New York (Columbia University) that has had some success (though they are still working hard on this) to build a heart – read about it here: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v522/n7556/full/522373a.html
